The Events Surrounding the Portal

The night fell upon us. Me, Tara, and Genevieve went into the shelter and talked by the campfire.

"Genevieve, me and Tara have something to share with you," I said.

"It's about the events surrounding the portal and this new time and world," Tara said to Genevieve.

"Please do share," Genevieve replied.

Me and Tara explained to Genevieve about what happened after we entered the portal. We told her about the voice and everything we could remember about what it said while we were drifting through space and time.

"That is so messed up," Genevieve said.

"It is a lot to grasp onto," Tara replied. "After the voice finished talking, me and Richard ended up here in this time and world in a desert."

"So, if we came from a world built upon the past and we're now in a future world, what the hell is the world of the present?" Genevieve asked.

"I wish I could give you an answer, but me and Tara both have no idea." I replied to Genevieve. "It's as if both of our memories have been wiped out."

"What did the voice mean when it said that you never made it to the present, Tara?" Genevieve asked.

"We don't know that either, Genevieve," Tara replied. "This is all just so disturbing."

"And your existence is threatened, Richard?" Genevieve asked. "What the hell is that supposed to mean?"

"I wish I knew," I replied.

"When I went through the portal, everything went dark, and then suddenly I was in this strange world," Genevieve explained. "I never had the same experience as you two did."

"This is all just too much to take in right now," I said. "Why don't we just get some rest."

"I could use some sleep myself," Tara replied. "Besides, we have a big day ahead of us tomorrow."

"Yeah, I suppose some rest would be good," Genevieve said. "But this is all just so messed up..."

I placed my hand on Genevieve's shoulder. "Yeah, it is."

I try not to think about the events surrounding the portal too often, but I knew at some point that me and Tara would have to share what we knew with Genevieve. She seemed pretty upset when me and Tara told her about everything that we could remember. This whole situation is just so disturbing, but we just gotta accept it for what it is and hope for the best.
