A Return to the World of the Far Past

After going through the portal to return to the world of the future to rescue our friends Genevieve, Stephon, and Brian, me and Tara drifted through space and time. Unfortunately, we didn't end up in the world of the future. Me and Tara ended up back in British Columbia, the world of the far past.
"What went wrong?" I asked Tara. "The portal was supposed to take us back to the world of the future."
"I have no idea," Tara replied. "Were you focusing your thoughts and memories on the world of the future as we entered the portal?"
"Yeah, I was," I said to Tara.
"Maybe try focusing on the world of the future now just like how you focused on bringing us back home to Willow Creek 1994," Tara suggested.
I looked into the sky.
"Okay, let me try," I said as I closed my eyes.
A few minutes passed by, but nothing happened.
"It's not working," I said to Tara.
"It was worth a try," Tara replied.
Me and Tara stood there in silence for a few moments.
"Ricky, look around us," Tara said. "This place has changed since the last time we were here."
I looked around me. "You're right, Tara."
"The house is gone, there are ruins where the giant pillars used to be, and if you look over there, there are more ruins," Tara said.
"Also, I can't see the town of Chilliwack in the distance anymore," I replied. "The castle over there is still here though."

I'm not sure why the portal in Glimmerbrook didn't take me and Tara back to the world of the future like it did the first time we entered it. It's also quite strange that British Columbia, the world of the far past, has also changed since we were last here. I wonder if the reasoning behind the changes are the same as to why Genevieve, Stephon, and Brian never made it home to Willow Creek 1994 with me and Tara.
Where the house used to sit now lies an empty field with a clear view of the mysterious castle.

To the south of the castle, there are now ruins. Before, I believe there used to be a building of some sort in that same spot.

The town of Chilliwack used to be visible when looking to the northwest, but now all you can see are rocks, trees, and other natural vegetation.

"So, what's the plan, Ricky," Tara asked.
"I don't know," I replied. "I guess, for now, we should probably try to set up a camp and build some kind of a shelter since we no longer have a house."
Well, me and Tara are about to go do some resource gathering to set up a camp and build some shelter. Who knows how long we'll be here in this world for. We might even be stuck here forever unless I can figure out how to master my gift of time. What matters now is that me and Tara have to adapt to our surroundings and try to survive.
